Background
Many regard the Audi RS 6 Avant as the ultimate daily, presumably forgetting it has a little brother that punches just as hard. Currently in its fourth generation, the Audi RS4 has been in production since 1999.The model under the hammer here is the third generation, model code B8, a car that makes use of a high-revving, naturally aspirated 4.2-litre V8 instead of the latest version’s polar-bear-friendly turbocharged 2.9-litre V6.
The eight-cylinder powerplant revs to 8,250 rpm and is good for 450hp along with 430Nm, which as you would expect, is fed to all four wheels, thanks to Audi’s iconic quattro drivetrain, all channelled via a seven-speed dual-clutch S Tronic transmission.
Sixty-two miles per hour is achieved in a very conservative 4.7 seconds and the top speed is limited to 155mph, although it could be increased to over 170mph as an option, should you be in a hurry.
Compared to the standard A4 and S4, the RS4 features re-modelled front and rear bumpers along with wider arches to allow for the wider track and larger alloys.
Cast iron brake discs with Brembo calipers are as standard. A Sports Pack was also available, which gave owners a sports exhaust as well as the Dynamic Ride Control (or DRC for short), both of which are optioned on this car.
